Algonquin: either a distinct Algonquian language closely related to the Anishinaabe language or a particularly divergent Anishinaabe dialect. It is spoken, alongside French and to some extent English, by the Algonquin First Nations of Quebec and Ontario.
Anti-capitalism: wide variety of movements, ideas, and attitudes which oppose capitalism. Anti-capitalists, in the strict sense of the word, are those who wish to completely replace capitalism with another system; however, there are also ideas which can be characterized as partially anti-capitalist in the sense that they only wish to replace or abolish certain aspects of capitalism rather than the entire system.
Electronic music: a kind of music that employs electronic musical instruments and electronic music technology in its production. In general a distinction can be made between sound produced using electromechanical means and that produced using electronic technology.[2] Examples of electromechanical sound producing devices include the telharmonium, Hammond organ, and the electric guitar. Purely electronic sound production can be achieved using devices such as the Theremin, sound synthesizer, and computer.
Greasy spoon: a colloquial or slang term used in Britain, Ireland and North America for small, especially cheap, archetypal working class restaurants or diners. The name "greasy spoon" is used to imply a less-than-rigorous approach to hygiene and dishwashing, and appears in use in the early twentieth century.
Mile End: one of the parts of the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough in terms of Montreal's municipal politics. Local residents make a distinction between Mile End, a highly multicultural area of the city, and the central and eastern parts of the Plateau borough, which have primarily Francophone populations.
Post rock: a genre of alternative rock characterized by the use of musical instruments commonly associated with rock music, but using rhythms, harmonies, melodies, timbre, and chord progressions that are not usually found in rock tradition. It is the use of 'rock instrumentation' for non-rock purposes. Practitioners of the genre's style typically produce instrumental music.
Poutine: a dish consisting of French fries topped with fresh cheese curds, covered with brown gravy and sometimes additional ingredients. Poutine is a diner staple which originated in Quebec and can now be found across Canada.
